Thankful.

I am thankful for many things.  Today I would like to specifically recognize a few:

I am thankful for all of these outstanding men (especially that handsome one second from the left sitting in the front).  I am thankful that I got to spend Thanksgiving last year with most of them and that though they aren’t home this year, that they could spend it together.

I am thankful for my family and the wonderful family that raised the man who became my husband 10 1/2 years ago.  I miss you all!

I am thankful that God has given me a strong and healthy body as well as the ability and desire to use it.

I am thankful for the life that I have, so many are less fortunate than I.

And today, as my family is far away and my husband is farther still, I am thankful for wonderful friends who have graciously included me in their holiday plans so that I wouldn’t be alone.

God is good.

Unintended consequences of putting the Bloodhound Gang in a playlist and the ultimate concert

  1. Beverage nearly coming out my nose due to the unexpected pleasure of one of my favorite (shameful I know, but I love it) songs coming on, followed by choking, laughter, watery eyes and crazy looks from the occupants of the car next to me
  2. I want Waffle House
  3. Prince
  4. I think (not for the first time) that any spin instructor who worked this song into their rotation would be my hero forever
  5. I think I like this song because it is so random – which is pretty much how my brain works when I’m running (if I’m not busy doing math in my head)

Which brings me to some sort of point:  What is your ultimate concert?  Mine would have to include Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Queen, AC/DC, Nelly, Christina Perri & Pantera.  I think Big & Rich (circa 2004) needs to open this one.  Obviously, several key players in this situation are no longer living, but it’s my dream so it can be whatever I want it to be.

Race recap: random thoughts mile by mile

Mile 1: Wind. Great. At least it isn’t raining any more.

Mile 2: Well that hill wasn’t on the elevation profile. Do I really have to run another one. Better speed up.

Mile 3: I just need to catch that ponytail in front of me. (we round a sharp corner) Well that’s definitely not a woman but I am still going to pass him.

The finish (3/4 of a lap around a track to the finish line): Wow my legs feel good. I think I can catch another person. Oh no way! An old man in warm up pants isn’t beating me today (runs past him and he tries to catch me in the last 100m, so I kicked it up a gear).

Treadmill Success

Running repeats at 9.0 on my treadmill wasn’t quite as scary as I expected it to be.  I made it through my whole session successfully (and without belt burn).

  1. 1 mile warm-up
  2. 1/2 mile @ 6:40 pace
  3. 1/4 mile recovery jog
  4. 1/2 mile @ 6:40 pace
  5. 1/4 mile recovery jog
  6. 1/2 mile @ 6:40 pace
  7. 1/4 mile recovery jog
  8. 1/2 mile @ 6:40 pace
  9. 1/4 mile recovery jog
  10. 1 mile cool-down that wasn’t a cool-down because I wanted my overall pace to be a bit faster

5 miles total, 8:39 average pace, repeat pace and number of reps courtesy of Lee.  Next up, I have a progressive run (treadmill) and then this weekend, mile repeats (~7:00/mile pace if my legs don’t fall off, go numb or otherwise fail me).

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the weather on race day will be better than it is today.  It’s a little chilly.
